It has been
a while since I last wrote here in this blog, isn't it? And maybe you are
asking why I am writing in English, well, I’m starting in two weeks a Master in
English so I have to practice this language, right?! Then, I had the idea of
updating this blog in English, “joining business with pleasure”. J
My
impressions of Salzburg have changed a little, but not so much. I still find
this city a really beautiful place to live. I love being surrounded by
mountains and lakes. I found really nice people and also people not so pleasurable
– like in everywhere around the world. Nowadays we are feeling at home again.
It's so good to be able to communicate - even just a little bit - in German and
is also good knowing where is possible to find almost everything that we need
in day-to-day.
During
spring and summer, Salzburg is completely focused in tourism because of this fancy
“Salzburg Festspiele”, a big (and I would say expensive) event for music lovers
- you can find more information about it in this website: http://www.salzburgerfestspiele.at/.
So, streets in downtown were closed to traffic during the day and there were free
Opera concerts during the nights. We’ve enjoyed warm nights just walking and
eating an ice-cream in downtown. We also tried several times to watch an Opera
(there is a big screen with concerts played in “Salzburg Festspiele” in the
last years) although we stood there just for few minutes… We really prefer Rock
‘n’ Roll!!!
A little
bit more of our daily life:
We went to
many protestant churches; most of all are different from usual churches in Brazil
and normally there aren’t many young people in there – really sad. The big challenge
for us is the language; we can only understand maybe 20% of all the priest says.
So it’s also difficult to have a nice conversation with people that don’t speak
English. But that’s ok, we have to learn German and we’ll learn only if we try
and try again!
About
food, we found a Brazilian butcher, so we can eat really good meat – picanha –
for less than 44EUR – more specifically, around 17 Euros per kilo! It’s still much
more expensive than in Brazil but is better than eat just pork and turkey! Concerning travelling... How is easy to travel here in Europe!! In the last 7 months we went
to different cities in Germany, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Nederland, Switzerland and UK. Down
below I’m posting some pictures of our last travels, some of them we did with
Brazilian friends that were in our house.
Now we have
plenty challenges – languages to learn, new studies and work – but in the next
months we’ll write about it in this blog and try to share what is happening with
us in the old world.
